'Man Of Steel''Doesn't Feel Like A Comic Book Movie' To Michael Shannon

MTV News got a bit of face time with Michael Shannon, the man behind General Zod's madness in "Man of Steel." The actor got honest when asked how he fit his version of General Zod into the wider framework of the film.

"What was interesting is that it never really felt like a comic book movie to me," says Shannon int he video below. "Because of the approach, it was so serious. And I don't mean that to make it sound like it's not [entertaining], because at the end of the day it's meant to be an entertaining movie, and I think it is. But from the very opening there on Krypton, there's some real serious issues being discussed and real dire circumstances."

Now I know how comic book fans feel when they hear an actor say a film "doesn't feel like a comic book movie," but I'd take Shannon's reassurance that this is first and foremost an entertaining movie to heart. Movies like "Marvel's the Avengers" and Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy and, hopefully, "Man of Steel" all show different shades of superheroes on film, proving that there's no correct way to do it (as long as it's not the "Batman & Robin" way). "Comic book" isn't a genre, it's a medium, after all.
